The staff were friendly and beds and shower were very clean, although the cleaner hadn't vacuumed very effectively under the bed or around the furniture.I'm 4' 10" so the room was fine for me. My husband is not a tall man about 5' 9" and he could not stand upright in the shower. It was fine for us but if your 6' + tell them when booking as they may have rooms which are more appropriate. Given that, it is a very old building and therefore only to be expected. There was a nice choice of cooked breakfast and they were prepared to accommodate changes to what was on the breakfast menu. The breakfast came quickly and my boiled eggs were cooked perfectly. The lady who served us was very friendly.I think it was good the for price we paid and would stay there again.

We come to birmingham two or three times a year for work. This time a course but normally for the NEC.this is the best place we have stayed in. (Plus you xan jump on a train for one stop to the NEC. We will not be looking for another hotel in future as this ticks all the boxes. The food is 5 star and the choice of ales is excellent. We will be back.

I stayed at the White Lion the night before an event I was delivering at Hampton Manor just up the road. I was greeted by lovely smiles and attentive staff, thoroughly enjoyed my soup and ciabatta before having a lovely night sleep in the room which was full of charm and small touches of decor. It was nice and quiet.I felt like I was on the set of "the Holiday" with all the lovely Christmas decorations in the pub downstairs. Breakfast service was as lovely and attentive. I would definitely return again! Thank you.

We spent Saturday and Sunday at the White Lion Inn,Room 8,we were so disappointed with the accommodation, the Bathroom had no towel rail or shelf resulting having to put our toiletries on the floor(not very hygenic) the mirror was placed far to high, so unable to use it ,same I the bedroom badly placed mirror and no main light! all very inconvenient for getting ready for a wedding! I do think the room is overpriced, for what you get!,I must mention that your staff were first class, very helpful and obligingRegards Jean Cuthill

So sorry you were disappointed and appear to be so out of sync with the vast majority of our reviewers.Whilst there is no shelf ,there is a cupboard and mirror above the sink fortoiletries. We will make note of your comments and pass on your kind comment to the staff.

We booked a Friday overnight stay following spending the day at Bear Grylls adventure. Our plan was for some nice food, a few glasses of something cold and relaxing and a comfortable bed ….. we got much more than that. A lovely welcome, a fabulous quirky room in a beautiful building, a lovely evening meal from the friendliest staff, a very comfortable nights sleep followed by a delicious breakfast, again all served by great friendly staff. Would we pop over to stay again, yes we absolutely would 👍😊

My husband and I had a pleasant experience at the inn.Our accommodation is in a separate building from the pub overlooking an outdoor area with comfortable tables and benches to enjoy drinking or dining outside. We had dinner at the pub and the freshness of the salmon and steak did not disappoint.Breakfast was included in our booking, and the owners had a table set up for us! We had a full English breakfast and chatted with the one of the owners about the village. Such a lovely experience! The only suggestion would be our queen bed. We prefer a firm mattress.

Stayed here for 2 nights as we were busting the NEC.Great location and a short walk to the railway station. Our room was just off the garden and was very small but Chris had phoned to offer us a bigger room as we were staying 2 nights but I declined. The room wasn’t very clean, lots of dust everywhere.I had a bag on the floor and when I was packing to leave I found loads of ants in the bag.We ate at the pub on both evenings as there isn’t really anywhere else to go in the village. The first night we had rump steak which was the worst we had ever had, told a member of staff but she didn’t acknowledge my complaint. We wouldn’t stay here again.
Response
Sorry you didn’t have a great experience with us.Rest assured we will look in to the cleaning issues, unfortunately ants in June is a problem with nature that we encounter every June. Regarding the tough steak, your comments were noted on the night, and I believe it was removed from your bill, if not please get in touch and wewill refund

Not suitable for a business stay in the working weekit was confirmed to me at 10:15pm when I went down to the bardue to the noise in my room directly above itthat the bar would close at 10:30pm as per the paperwork in the room, but to my shere disappointment it stayed open until justbefore midnight on a Tuesday night which was not fair. Therewas no consideration for paying guests with my room being directly above it and the fact that I had queried the noise at 10:15pm Nice breakfast though.
Response
Very sorry you were told that the pub would close at 10.30, as ours like all other pubs call last orders at 11.00 except Sundays, which is 10.30 Perhaps in the future we could accommodate you in one of our 4B&B rooms in the garden area rather than above the pub, however again there may be noise form other guests and drinkers as we are primarily a pub with B&B rooms

We stayed here after meeting up with old friends in Birmingham City Centre during the day.Easy to find and very friendly. The room was a little tired but the beds were super comfy.Bathroom needed more of a clean but nothing major. We ate in the pub last night and the food was delicious however it was very very busy and noisy… had we known thatthere was a party we might have chosen somewhere else… we’d come from one loud pub in Birmingham to another when all we really wanted was a quiet evening with nice food and to chat..we couldn’t hear each other at all. However that was our misfortune and not a reflection on the pub at all.We would definitely recommend and stay again.

We hired three rooms in the main building for one night after seeing Judas Priest at the Resorts World Arena. The building is full of history and the rooms were very comfortable indeed. All modern amenities were available. We had a nice warm welcome from Chris the owner. Breakfast was nicely cookedand well served in the quaint pub downstairs. We all really enjoyed our stay and would come again. Please note you do not have to pay in the car park if you arrive early - the reception does not officially open until 5pm which is a bit lateto be honest. As an improvement suggestion it should be at least an hour earlier not for the licensing hours but for the accommodation. There is then plenty of time to check in and get ready to enjoy the rest of the day especially if you are going for the train to Birmingham concert halls.

I had a nice stay here. A nice room in a lovely location. Breakfast is available from 7.30am on weekdays and it was first rate. I had an evening meal here which was OK rather than very good - though I would certainly dine there again. 100 yards away is an Indian restaurant which I would also recommend. Two points - don't expect a quiet early night because it is a pub and you will understandably hear some music (not particularly loud). Secondly, the water pressure isn't great in such a historic building so the shower isn't brill - tolerable though. I would return!

Our room was ready on arrival and booking in etc. was made very easy. We were made to feel very welcome from the start by the staff and other people already enjoying The White Lion. Our room was detached from the main building and set at the bottom of the outside are (although there are rooms set in the main building too), it was well presented, spotlessly clean and very warm and welcoming. All the facilities you would expect were available in our room and there was plenty of tea and coffee available with a few biscuits too!We only stayed one night and ate there that evening and as everything else, the food was great and the young waitresses were very welcoming, pleasant and efficient. The electric shower was great and the bed so comfortable and we paid extra for the full English breakfast and it was worth every penny and set us up for the rest of the day.We would just like to thank everyone at The White Lion for making us feel so welcome and comfortable and our only regret was that we could not stay longer. We have no hesitation in recommending The White Lion and assure you that if you stay here, you will have no regrets

We stayed for 1 night in the out buildings. The room was adequate, a little cold on arrival, this was addressed. Breakfast was a standard Full English, not overly big, but well cooked. We attended a wedding at the Hampton Manor which was lovely, the White Lion is perfectly placed for the Manor. The room was ready for us to check in to earlier than we thought it might which was a great help and kind of the owners. I would stay here again if I was visiting the manor but would ask for a room inside the main building if possible.

The White Lion is a 400 year-old pub, opposite a 900 year-old church. The rooms are quirky, the floors creaky, the doorways are low and the church bells chime. That is how it is and always has been, so just embrace it, settle in and enjoy the local atmosphere and ales in the well-stocked bar, and the excellent home-cooked pub menu. The welcome and service is friendly and faultless, the rooms quiet and comfortable, and there's a good breakfast on offer. We thought it was all brilliant, but it's not for you if you favour the sterile branded hotel chain experience.

The White Lion proved to be a perfect spot for us to stay during a family event in nearby Solihull.Warm welcome from the friendly, helpful staff and rooms were spotlessly clean, very comfortable and excellent value for money. We had one 'outside' room which was quiet, modern and nicely furnished, with good-sized ensuite shower room. We also had a twin bedroom inside the gorgeous 17th century pub which was beautifully presented, with ensuite shower. High quality bedlinen, towels and toiletries provided in all our rooms. Breakfasts were freshly cooked to order and delicious (included in the price). We would highly recommend a stay at the White Lion :)

What an enjoyable change from the typical Chain or disinterested Private operation. Great welcome leading to an interesting, characterful room topped by a real village pub and a range of Ales in superb condition: food too in pub style without pretence but with tasty Eatable qualityAll perhaps summarised in the simple gesture of a member of staff when asked about the access to our room. "I'll take you there". How rare but how good.

Absolutely fabulous place, greeted by Chris the owner (sorry we were a little early 🫣) who welcomed me and my son ( he was there to attend the Comic-Con ) with genuine hospitality, showed us to our ample quirky beautiful country house room. Fully equipped with coffee tea and scrumptious biscuits xWarm room with a fab sized bathroom and full powered shower x.We were in awe after packing stepping into the pub downstairs. Christmas picture perfect, beautifully kept spotlessly clean and something different to read and chuckle about on every wall x.Food was amazing, bar well kept fantastic staff. As far as the positives concerned, great locationear Hampton Manor, Airport and NEC this place serves an ok breakfast and a decent pint. Sadly the room was dismal. Dark, tired furniture, most awful mattress ever and a shower that would only work at two extremes - scolding hot ( and I mean scolding ) or freezing cold. The car park is poorly lit and considering what we paid we felt really short changed. Owner blames all faults on age of property but I have owned 400 ywe at old properties which functioned just as well as modern ones. Believe me this the FIRST bad review I have ever made, do yourself a favour and either keep looking or just sleep in your car
Response

Pub was pleasant, food fine. But room was a disgrace. Not in the pub at all but in an outhouse across the beer garden. Tiny - about 18 inches each side of the bed. "Bathroom" just a toilet, a tiny basin only big enough for a hand wash, and a flimsy shower cubicle which only served up lukewarm water. No shelving, so I had to keep my toothbrush and shaving tackle on the floor. Most important, running past the room was a footpath accessible from the car park, and the window had only a broken lock so that it was totally insecure. I had to sleep with the window shut. There was no indication when I booked that I would be put in an outhouse. For an Eastern European truck stop or a military barracks it might have been acceptable, but for £108 a night it was a joke. One more thing: the man who served my breakfast was courteous and efficient, but slouched beside him against the breakfast bar was a man who kept yawning loudly, stretching himself and groaning, presumably suffering from a hangover. Not what one wants to hear at breakfast. So here's what you must do: 1) explain on your booking particulars that room 9 is a very small ground floor room in a single-story outhouse away from the main building and easily accessible by members of the public; 2) charge a fair price for it; 3)fit a proper security lock to the window; 4)make the shower produce hot water; and 5) sack the yawning, groaning man, or at least keep him away from your guests.
Response
Wow !!!We aresorry to hear that you are so out of sync with the vast majority of our guests. We are also very sorry you did not find your room acceptable, unsure about the shelf comment as there is one above the toilet.Perhaps we are just not what you are used to or expected.Pleaserest assured we will look into your other very personal comments about our staff, however we will not be following your very specific instructions about what we must do in sacking anybody.

A very old fashioned pub and not a straight line in the place. The room was ideal and comfortable, my only concern would be the very steep stairs to reach the room but if one is careful then not an issue. The booking was made in February for a stay in September. When checking nearer to the date to book a meal I was told there would be a wedding on so no restaurant. No problem. However on arrival it was obvious that the wedding was to be in the garden due to the hot weather. Our room was in the garden!! The live music went on till 10.30pm.We could not open the bedroom windows due to the noise. Our flight to the airport meant we had to leave at 6.30 am. A very sleepless night. The room was comfortable. The management arranged the taxi. All this was fine but knowing we needed an early start perhaps we could have been informed prior to the date so we could have found alternative accommodation . If there had been no wedding I’m sure we would have had a really nice stay.
Response
Really pleased you found the pub comfortable, but amsorry that you felt the music from the wedding went on a little late given your early start the next day. Hope you went on to enjoy your River Cruise holidayRegardsChris, The White Lion Inn

I was in town for a car show, but have stayed in pub accommodations before; I have to say this exceeded expectations.Hampton-in-Arden is more upscale than I'd imagined, and is a pleasant place to walk around.Breakfast was not included in my rate, but was available for a small supplement and was very good. The pub is most lively and convivial.I stayed in one of the rooms across the beer garden from the main hotel, and was a bit concerned that it might prove noisy, but the outdoor speakers were turned off at a reasonable hour and the patrons were very quiet.I definitely recommend the White Lion Inn to anyone attending events at the NEC over an airport/conference center hotel, as it is just up the hill from the train station, which is in turn just a short ride away.Clean and well-appointed. One tip: The cord in the bathroom is not an emergency alarm, but is rather the power mains switch for the shower water heater. I felt a bit silly having to ask about that.Be sure to ask about kitchen hours for dinner in advance. On the evening it was closed, they recommended a good Indian restaurant right around the corner, but be aware that there aren't that many nearby options.

I was at the NEC all day before checking in and had to get changed quickly and get back for a dinner. I noticed a bunch of ants near the bathroom door and mentioned it to the landlord who said he would sort it. I got back late when nobody was around and found ants all over the room and on the bed. I decided I could not stay in the room so managed to shake the ants of my stuff and went to stay in the car all night! In the morning when the landlord arrived at the White Lion I explained the problem. He said this happened for a week or 10 days every year. I did point out that he should not be letting rooms out with this problem and he claimed they were not there earlier in the day but I find that hard to believe. I don’t know what staying there would be like otherwise but you can be sure I won’t be going back to find out.

We had decided months ago that it would just be lovely to stay, after spending a day at the NEC. Very relaxing meal and a very good bottle of wine, sat next to a real wood fire, without the hassle of having to drive anywhere, bliss.

I had a pleasant overnight stay at the White Lion Inn. I stayed in room one and loved its quirky old-world charm, tiny doorways and sloping floor. I really appreciated having an armchair to sit in to watch TV and the biscuits were a welcome treat. I wandered around the village to see what was available for an evening meal and realised that there wasn't anywhere else open to eat apart from the pub. The prices in the pub restaurant average mains around £15 and desserts for £6.95. Seeing prices of that level for pub food always gives me high expectations for flavour and quality . Sadly I was disappointed on both fronts. I was asked whether everything was ok with the meal a couple of times and I said quite clearly that I found the food disappointing but the waitress made no attempt to find out why I'd said that, she just smiled and walked away. Had she quizzed me further I would have said that the small portion of fish and chips was rather bland and that I hadn't enjoyed the peach and apple crumble as it had a strange aftertaste. The following morning I had the "not-so-full English breakfast" which is the vegetarian option on the breakfast menu. The breakfast was really good the coffee was really nice, there was a great selection of cereals and juices and the cooked breakfast was excellent. When it came to checking out I wasn't asked how my stay had been and I was in too much of a hurry to get to work to spend time giving feedback at that point. In summary, based on my experience, I'd say If you are staying here because you want a great night's sleep and a tasty hearty breakfast the White Lion is a great choice for you and I would stay there again for that reason. I would however look for somewhere else to get an evening meal.I ended up spending £25 for a main, dessert and a half of cider which I feel was a bit over the odds for what I got. A couple of tips :If you are driving be sure to enter your car registration into the tablet on the bar selecting 2 days as the duration of your stay or you could be charged when the parking reservation resets after midnight. Also, it said the pub had WiFi but there wasn't anything in the rooms or the guest welcome book to tell you which one to join or what the password was. Maybe ask at the bar when you check in for the connection details if you want to make use of it.

We booked two rooms for a group of friends staying visiting the NEC.The accommodation was lovely, a quirky centuries old Inn made comfortable and welcoming for a really lovely stay.Clean rooms with good beds and soft linen. The owners were friendly, helpful and great hosts.Breakfast was cooked to order and smashing.Parking was free on site and a cab to NEC a short drive. The only points to note are the upstairs rooms are not easily accessible if you have mobility issues or are disabled.I'm not sure if any rooms were available on the ground floor. Also, as history dictates. you need to mind your head if you are over 5' 4" ! haha

Staid at the White Lion for 2 nights and it is a nice traditional Inn with a pub and restaurant and a couple of rooms. The room was clean and big enough. I prefer these kind of places over the modern Travel lodges in the world as they are located in the centre of the town or village and have a history. The restaurant at the White Lion serves good quality food. The 2nd evening of my stay I had diner with business relations in the Hilton at the NEC and there the food was bad.

Room itself was small but very clean, comfortable and acceptable. We arrived at 4.40pm to find the whole place in darkness....we noticed a kitchen door open and were told that nobody would be there until after 5pm, so we walked around the village centre until 5.The lady at check-in did the bare minimum to get us checked in and wasn't very personable or friendly.Even if we had been offered a coffee or a drink to wait for check in would have been better than being sent away...5pm is a very late check in timeWe ate out so only really slept in the room.Breakfast was ok but underwhelming. The experience didn't feel overly friendly or welcoming overall. Not unpleasant, but not certain I would choose to stay again

Very sorry you did not appear to enjoy your stay. Our check in/opening time of 5.00 is well publicised on our website and booking confirmations, this has changed since the end of Covid, to adapt to new trading patterns .Also sorry you found our freshly cooked to order breakfast underwhelming. Hopefully you may give us another chance one day, as your rating does seem quite out of sync with the vast majority of our other reviewers , or maybe we just didn't suit this time. Regards TWL

Second time of staying here whilst visiting Hampton Manor. However, be very careful when booking on The White Lion website as it’s a little bit deceptive as you’re unable to change the number of adults staying. I’d booked a twin room so thought it was obvious there would be two adults staying however unable to change from 1 adults to 2 adults on the website. Therefore, when checking out we were charged an extra 22.25%!!!! Easier and cheaper to book through booking.com

Very sorry you had difficulty booking on our website. There is an option for single or double occupancy on all nine of our rooms as our prices are all based on occupancy and associated costs

We were heading to Resorts World/the NEC for a gig and I realised the train stopped at Hampton In Arden and Birmingham International. It turned out this was perfect for a lovely pint of HPA beforehand and getting back for another one before closing. The room was small but clean and nice but the staff were very pleasant from checking us in several hours early to talking about football the following morning after a good breakfast. The pub itself is quite attractive and the countryside around is rather pretty for a walk or run, something quite amazing when you are less than ten minutes from the centre of Solihull. I would definitely go back.

On arrival, very friendly greeting, checking in very simple. With the Inn being over 400 yr old you can see some of its quirks. Our bedroom was large, nice & airy, albeit on a slant but that was part of the quirkiness plus the access door to the bathroom, bifold into a nice en-suite shower room.Shower possibly for the smaller person but it really just made me smile rather than annoyed.Restaurant and all the team were friendly & helpful, you can see what it’s popular with the locals & guests.Great for an overnight stay but no longer but I must state this is only due to the difficulties of my morning shower 😂😂Highly recommend

Our accommodation was as would be expected for the price; comfortable, clean and adequate. We dined for the one night in their restaurant. We had starter to share. Good. I had moules and frites. Very nice and a generous potion. Sadly my wife ordered roast chicken. I think it must have been cooked the day before it was so dry that neither of us could swallow it. We told the waitress who said sorry- no offer of discount or complementary desert perhaps.Breakfast was very nice and the coffee was wonderful.Just a shame about the poor old chicken. Hi

Very sorry about your chicken experience. Hopefully you will return, and we can buy you a drink ( or a desert ? ) Seriously though thanks for your constructive comments and hope to see you again

The pub is in a lovely village and perfect for the NEC. We were very confused when the website and all the literature said that the bar and restaurant is closed on a Monday night. I nearly cancelled our booking. However when we turned up the pub was not closed, and the food was great. We were in room 1 which is quaint but not having any curtain or dividing blind between the toilet and the curtain is embarrasing (even after you've been married 43 years) and it would be helpful if there was a blind on the window next to the bed as the curtain does not stop the light coming in.

Our second stay and not disappointed. The food was delicious albeit a little short on choice because of a reduced menu. The room in the main building was cosy and clean. The bar below was extremely busy with locals celebrating a 21st birthday so it was difficult getting served at the bar and when we retired upstairs it was quite noisy but we could still hear the TV we had on.Not an issue for us but worth being aware of.

Lovely traditional pub with a warm welcome and very friendly atmosphere. Our room was delightfully rustic, clean and cosy. Our evening meals were delicious and there are plenty of homemade options to select from. The bar has a good selection of local beers as well as wines and spirits. It seemed to be a popular place with the locals who were all very friendly.Breakfast was served in the restaurant area and whilst the choices were not extensively different they covered the most popular with plenty of tea and coffee too.All staff were very helpful, friendly and polite with time for every customer no matter how busy they were.We are hoping to return in the New Year so we can try more delicious food.

Stayed for one night. Traveling home from NEC exhibition was too long a day and it is less than a 10 minute drive away. Really Good hotel with friendly staff. Its an old building and the heating in one of the three rooms we had was poor, but there was an electric fan in each room so no real problem.Nice busy pub , with great food and an excellent cooked breakfast. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

I stayed in November. The room (3) was in the main pub but was not noisy. Being an old building the ceilings are low but otherwise it was fine. Comfortable bed and lovely hot shower. Breakfasts are excellent and being able to eat excellent and well priced food downstairs in the evening is a big bonus. For me the big advantage was a 5 minute walk to the station then a 2 minute train ride and you are in the centre of the NEC - just watch the train times as they are not very frequent. If they have rooms will definitely stay here next time

Booked white lion rather than hotel as wanted a change from the norm, and it didn't disappoint. Rooms clean and tidy, although shower was pretty small for me, had to crouch to get in, I'm only 6ft, its all character though. Friendly locals, some like minded customers and nice hosts. Unfortunately it was Chef's night off, kitchen closed. However they have a pizza waggon in the rear courtyard, the pizza was amazing! So really happy. Will stay here again definitely.

We stayed at The White Lion Inn as we were travelling and it is convenient for the motorway network. We found it to be friendly and welcoming. We arrived on a Sunday evening so unfortunately no food was available but we enjoyed a couple of drinks in the bar. It was a real old pub with a good atmosphere, frequented by both guests and locals. The room was clean but small, cramped and the decor and furnishings in need of updating. The full English breakfast was excellent.

A family run Inn with friendly owners who offer a great welcome. We were attending a wedding the next day in Hampton Manor - very close so super convenient. The pub is stylish and shabby-chic.The menu is simple and limited, but the food is excellent. My wife and I both had steaks (rare) superb cuts perfectly cooked. The room was across a small courtyard (the outside drinking/eating area of the pub) and was tastily decorated, with all facilities needed, very nice. The full English breakfast - superb!Simply excellent, thank you very much to the owners and staff.A tiny request: a wider choice of alcohol free beers - there are so many good ones out there now that an independent pub should not be selling Heineken zero! Try Brewdog 'Nanny State' (a bitter) or 'Punk AF' (a light IPA), 'Jever fun' an AF version of their German Pilsner or Lucky Saint a full bodied unfiltered lager. There are many others. UK law states that 0.5% or less is AF (as alcohol can not build up in your system)-the ones that are not absolute zero, but are properly brewed and then vacuum processed to reduce the alcohol content are much nicer than the 'zeros' (which tend to be the result of a chemistry experiment!)

I chose this ancient Inn and lovely peaceful little village to escape the pressures of London for 4 days. The station is just 8 minutes stroll away. My room was part of what was once an old bakery. My door led on to the pub garden and rear entrance to the Inn. The owners Chris and his wife Fanfan gave me a lovely welcome and it soon became apparent that we had a lot in common. Next door to the Inn is a general store/ post office / newsagent and a super made to order sandwich shop if you want a picnic. Chris cooked me a humdinger of a breakfast each morning. It was good to meet locals in the bar of an evening and drink a good variety of well-kept real ales. Their lovely restaurant serves up a menu of traditional pub meals with a few continental touches (the delightful Fanfan is french). Chris also recommended a suitable walk for this creaky 77 year old to a beautiful lake. They have coped very well with 'covid' regulations and all was very relaxed. Don't expect the Ritz. It isn't! The en-suite rooms are simple and comfortable with 'period' furnishings and contained all I needed for a very enjoyable stay. Many thanks Chris and Fanfan. See you again sometime!

I contacted Chris the owner and although he was closed due to the Coronavirus, he kindly helped out by providing accommodation only in a very comfortable annex. We stayed here for one night as we were attending a wedding in a nearby manor house and dropped our bags off between the ceremony and reception when we checked in and picked up the key as we were going to be late back. It was a bit cold when we got to the room in the annex but we thought that the heating had gone off because it was late. Next morning however there was no heating and no hot water. We waited till the pub was open for breakfast and it happened that the boiler had thrown a wobbly so we were invited to have a wonderful breakfast while the room warmed up. Unfortunately the boiler had wobbled again so we never managed a shower and hit the road quite early !! We had a chat and accepted a bottle of red wine for the inconvenience. Apart from that, the breakfast was lovely and the bar food menu looked good. I felt the room was overpriced but it was worth it for the convenience to the wedding reception (and cheaper than the Manor)

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at the White Lion. Everything went smoothly - online booking was simple, when we arrived we were shown straight to our cosy room that had all the essentials. We availed ourselves of the facilities on both nights - a friendly local pub with a great range of beers and wines, and delicious hearty meals from the restaurant (tweaked gladly to accommodate dietary requirements which is often stressful). The owners made us feel very welcome and all the staff were as friendly as they were efficient (ie very!). We set off home after a lovely breakfast that came quickly despite all the guests coming at the same time! If we’re back this way in the future, we’ll definitely be staying here again.

We are regular visitors to the White Lion when we are either exhibiting for work at the NEC or attending an event held there.Sit in the local bar and you will never fail to be entertained by a great group of locals and fellow visitors to the area. The food, atmosphere and staff are great as are the rooms. We really recommend this business.

Although the rooms are basic, they’re comfortable, clean and serviced very well. Big plus is that the rooms are attached to a pub/restaurant, so the food is exactly what a weary traveler needs - or fort food wit ha bit of flair, all served with a big smile.

We stayed for one night. The White Lion is a traditional, cosy, friendly pub.Our room was very compact, with the tiniest of bathrooms, but was clean, warm and comfortable. The location, just a few minutes walk from Hampton manor, where we had dinner, was perfect.

The stairs leading to room 10 were unsafe as there was no hand rail. The bedroom lighting was poor with nowhere to hang a towel in the bathroom. Faggots at dinner were bland with no seasoning. All four poached eggs at breakfast were hard

We booked the White Lion as it is conveniently located for a wedding we were due to attend. Our room was ideal, being at ground floor level, as we had 2 dogs with us.The room itself was rather dark, with poorish lighting, and the bathroom rather basic. However the bed was very comfortable and would have afforded a full night's sleep, had it not been for the noise of aircraft taking off from nearby Birmingham Airport.Braekfast was rather meagre as far as choices of cereals and juice were concerned, but the cooked breakfast was fine.Staff were unfailingly friendly. This pub is conveniently situated in a village setting, but close to the NEC and Airport. It is an old building, but none the worse for that. Car parking was adequate for our needs.

Stayed overnight at The White Lion with some colleagues and we were not disappointed. Staff were welcoming and friendly and seemed genuinely interested in providing a great service throughout.Food was really good quality, cooked fresh and really tasty and well priced.Rooms were in a seperate converted block and a little on the smaller side but lovely and clean with lots of amenities and the beds were really comfortable. We all agreed that we would be happy to stay here again when next in this area!

The White Lion was recommended by a friend, whose wedding we were attending at nearby Hampton Manor. The location was perfect - just a 5 minute walk from the wedding venue and sufficient parking as well as close proximity to a mainline railway station. The room was quite small but plenty of character. No issues with the toilet or shower (which seemed quite new) and it's the best night's sleep I've had for quite some time.Staff were welcoming and allowed us to check in a bit earlier than planned to drop our luggage off before the wedding service.Breakfast was good, too, and pretty fast to arrive after ordering. The only small criticisms I have are that there was no non-dairy milk as an option for breakfast for lactose intolerant/vegans.The price (£100) was a little more than I might expect to pay on a Sunday night, but in fairness, the proximity to the wedding venue and fact that the local area is really pleasant as well as the inclusion of breakfast for two people means that this felt fair in retrospect.I'd happily look at staying at this pleasant retreat next time I'm working in Birmingham or Warwickshire, and next time will be making the most of trying the beers downstairs!

Pleasant and helpful.Attended a wedding at Hampton Court a 2 minute walk away and stayed here. We asked to access the rooms early so we could change before going across to the wedding, and had a light lunch (very generous portions of freshly made sandwiches). Friends staying at Hampton Court booked a room here to be able to change because HC would not let them access their rooms before the wedding started. My wife and I stayed in room 7 in the courtyard - pleasant, adequate though the shower temperature was temperamental. My Mum stayed in room 5 in the Inn - the internal stair access is fairly steep and winding for older folks so be aware. The staff were pleasant and we enjoyed our stay - many thanks

Our ninth visit, this Inn is our favourite place to stay whilst attending NEC events.Hampton-in-Arden station is about a 6 minute walk away and the train to Birmingham International takes 3 minutes; no traffic jams and parking to worry about. The Inn is a quiet haven, surrounded by fine countryside. Always welcoming, with comfortable rooms, great food and real ales - looking forward to our tenth stay with them.

Stayed here after visiting NEC Birmingham, our twin room was spacious, clean and very good beds and bed linen, The floors were a bit creaky but expected in a 400 year old inn. I think what let it down for us was the food , which was over cooked and one meal lacked taste, this would not put us off staying here again and I would recommend if visiting this area.

We found The White lion when looking for accommodation for a large 3 day trade show at The NEC. It’s very reasonable and so close.. and turned out to be so much nicer than any travel lodge or holiday inn could ever be.The pub is characterful, a 400 year old pub with lots of history The hosts/landlords are lovely, the rooms are clean and comfortable with all the amenities you could want. There is a good selection of traditional pub grub and drinks. It was really nice to have somewhere welcoming at the end of the day to come back to instead of eating in some chain restaurant at the NECBreakfast was simple and delicious with all the cooked options you could want. They were very accommodating about serving breakfast early as we had to be on our stand early each morning. We will definitely be back for next years trade show.It felt like a home from home. I will never stay in another commercial hotel at the NEC again. We had a car to get back and forward but there is also a train station right next to the pub which is just one short stop.Thank you white Lion

I stayed at the White Lion with my mum whilst attending a function in the village. The White Lion staff were very welcoming, the pub was cosy, and the food great - even though they were also catering for several large Christmas bookings at the same time. The heating and plumbing in the rooms could be better - but that's to be expected in a 400 year old pub. Would definitely recommend the White Lion!

Lovely clean attractive room, great location, excellent staff. However, the room over the bar was way too noisy for us so if you don't want to be kept awake till midnight ask for a garden room. We also got caught out by change of breakfast times between weekends and weekdays. In a pub we didn't really expect them to stop serving breakfast at 9am. Our friends arrived and even though their room wasn't ready they got the key and popped the bags in . We had to ask to do the same . But if they hadn't been friends we wouldn't have known about this option . Code was given and the stay went to plan . But pure good luck on our part I would say .

stayed here after visiting NEC, nice pub in a quiet location only 4mls by car.The room itself was very small but clean and warm. There was only 2 table lamps for lighting, which was a problem for my wife trying to apply her make up! The bed was very comfortable. The food in the restaurant was ok., although my wife's steak was inedible as it was riddled with sinew, they did not charge for it, which was fair enough. The waitress was very helpful, even though she was run off her feet! We did not have breakfast as it finished at 9.00, which is far too early if you are on a break! We would stay here again, but would ask for a larger room and discount for not taking breakfast.

Very good location for access to Birmingham. Very good pub with separate room for locals, good selection of wines and beers, good food when served, and friendly staff. Rooms seemed newly refurbished but missing towel rail in bathroom and missing coat hangers and hanging rail in wardrobe. The rooms might be draughty in winter and the lighting was dim. Fresh towels each day but bin not emptied and mugs not washed. There was no food served Saturday because the restaurant was used for live music [loud] until 12:30am we were not warned about either in advance of arrival.

This location is very convenient for the NEC, located just south to Coventry Rd. A 500 year old pub, retaining many of the charms associated with that era. Good food and prompt service. Unfortunately, this is countered by some negatives. Being such an old building, the low ceilings (including the shower room) were relatively impractical for a tall person such as myself. The TV remote in my room has functions such as Netflix and YouTube, but were rendered useless because the internet connection was so poor (admittedly this is out of the proprietor's control). The main downside for me was the fact that there was a loud noise from what sounded like a ventilator near my room (outside room 1). The latter made it difficult to get to sleep, and stay asleep. This needs looking at. The proprietor also needs to ask a member of the bar staff to refrain from the repetitive use of bad language (swearing)within earshot of customers.

Nice welcome, bed was very comfy and I'm a very fussy bed person. Could have done with a tad warmer bedding in cold months and I would think people who are not so stable on their feet would probably appreciate a hand rail to get down the few steps to the annexe rooms. Delicious breakfast!!!Perfect for NEC

We stayed at the White Lion for just one night after a trip to the Classic Car Show at the NEC. The inn is very conveniently close and a much more characterful option than one of the faceless giant hotel options. Check in was friendly and efficient, and our room (3) had everything that we needed. We had an excellent evening meal - advise booking ahead as the restaurant is clearly a popular place. Very glad we could be squeezed in though as the food was good with excellent service. A couple of negatives were the bed (slats popped out, as they are wont to do - but then we're not the sveltest of folks!) and the breakfast service was very inefficient - we waited over an hour for ours and the order (2 full English, no black pudding) was wrong when it did finally arrive without an apology, and a very defensive attitude when my other half complained about the wait. Thank you for the kind comments.Sorry to hear about the breakfast situation, we will look in to what happened as a matter of urgency, to see what caused the delay in service.

Very welcoming and helpful staff. Good breakfast and evening meal menu excellent and food tasty. Good range of real ales.Location is terrific for NEC with a ten minute walk to the station which is only one stop from International. The only thing that stops me from giving five stars is that breakfast isn't served until 08.30 which is rather late if you are attending an exhibition at the NEC.

Food and drink all good, staff fine and no probs with the accomodation. However guilty of the age old lazy check-in i.e. you've just driven four hours to get there but you need to stand in the open restaurant in front of everyone with your two bags holding a suit (no hooks naturally) and hand fill in your autobiography (didn't have my glasses to hand) all of which was in your booking request ("Why do I have to do this when you've already been sent this". Helpful reply "because it's the procedure"). Nice girl took me to my room but let me struggle with two bags and a crumpled suit (by now). Purely because of the pain of this I won't be staying again but it's a good place other than that.

Lovely pub with ambience. I stayed one night only after a conference at the NEC. The food was very good in the restaurant. The biggest concern was the bed- not very comfortable. Mattress very thin and could feel the springs several times during the night! Overall a pleasant stay.

The White Lion Inn is the archetypal village inn with accommodation. Great breakfast and friendly staff made up for quirky bedroom with interesting plumbing arrangements.
Reviewer: Chris H | Fri 14th Oct 2016 | 8 years ago
The welcome, friendly staff and food was top drawer, but maintenance is required to improve standards.Room no. 8 had a radiator stuck on hot and thermostatic valve was broken, the shower requires adjusting as the shower head holder wasn't functioning and you had to hold it to have a one handed shower. There was a horrible sewerage smell coming from toilets in restaurant. Which was off putting.

My aunt and I stayed here for one night as she had a 6:30 check in at Birmingham airport. We had a relaxing place to stay, early dinner which we both enjoyed, great choices and then an early night before an early departure. We were in an outside room so it was easy to leave at 6 without disturbing other people.Would recommend this to any one.Cathy

Very impressed with the facilities this little place had. It was just what we needed for a one night stop over for a wedding across the road. Mattress was a little springy and the room was very warm even with window open and no heating but other than that a comfortable nights stay with a good breakfast in the morning.

Good location and easy to find. The room (twin) was confortable with everything I needed.....including a decent hairdryer. It was a very hot night and with being on the ground floor I didnt feel I could leave the window open, perhaps a small fan would help.Only critisism is the shower was lose and proved awkward when showering. All in all a great stay, with lovley restaurant food and staff. Will be back when in the area.

This is a lovely b and b to stay at if visiting NEC. Close enough and easy to get to by train, and away from hustle andbustle of NEC. Lovely village to walk around. Very friendly andcomfortable accommodation. Meals substantial. I guess the bar area is in process of being updated as carpet on the worn side. However will not hesitate in staying there again, so easy off motorway to get to.

The White Lion Inn, an attractive 17th century Inn, situated in the pretty villagein Hampton in Arden. The only drawback was the sound of the traffic and planes, living in rural Wales with only the sound of sheep...but the convenience and hospitality of the staff more than made up for this.

Due to attending a local wedding, decided to stay here. The room we had was quirky but lovely! The room itself was a decent size and had a really comfy (if a little soft) king sized bed! The decor suited the building, and yes a couple of the floor boards creaked and were slightly uneven (they are 400 years old!), and the doors are VERY low (I'm 6'5). The only downside to the room was lack of a door or curtain to the en-suite and the ceiling was just to low to be able to use the shower. The staff were really pleasant and food and drink outstanding!! Great place, would recommend it and will stay again :) Thank you!!

A great place to relax. As the NEC is about 15 minutes from the breakfast table, a short walk and by local train (no hassle), it's well worth staying here.

My stay at The White Lion was only for on night to enable me to meet my son arriving at Birmingham Airport on the following day. This is an excellent place to stay for anyone wishing to be within fifteen minutes of the airport and it is surprisingly quiet considering the airport's proximity. Everyone who works at The White Lion has a pleasant demeanour, the food is very good and the overall environment is very pleasing. I was generally pleased with my room except for my mattress. I could feel the springs and so would suggest replacing it or adding a mattress topper to make it more comfortable. This may be something that only applies to the room that I was in. Overall though the stay was very good and I would go back there again.

The lady who checked me in was rather brusque, as if it was a bother to hand me a key and tell me my room number. Everything else was A-1: the dinner (fish and chips were the best I had in 10 days in the UK), the breakfast, and the friendly wait staff in the restaurant, both evening and morning. Four and a half stars.

Lovely home cooked pub food. Friendly staff. Slight mix up with the room booking as we requested a family room with 2 children but on arrival, was told they were only expecting1 child. They offered a mattress on the floor but we sorted it out ourselves. Clean rooms with tea/coffee/ biscuits/ bottled water. Shower was very small so my husband had to bend down to get in but this is due to the character of the building. All in all, an enjoyable stay

Our triple room was located in the main building and was clean and spacious enough for 3 adults. The building is old so expect creaking floorboards whenever you move and the plumbing is also very loud! These details can't be helped however the mattresses can be and should be changed. The springs could be felt through the mattress and it was so uncomfortable that one of the party took to sleeping on the floor to try and get some sleep. The metal bed surround made noises at every move so don't expect a good nights sleep if thats what you're after! With that being said, the lunch we had when we arrived was very tasty and the service was good.I cant comment on the breakfast as we left too early (they don't serve breakfast prior to 8.30am on a weekend which was a shame). The pub is within walking distance to the train station with links directly to the NEC so is really convenient. All in all an ok stay but could be a good stay if the beds were upgraded.

Friendly service and conveniently located for a very quick train journey to the NEC. Our accommodation was a 'cottage' in the garden which was cosy and quiet despite the idiosyncratic lighting system and loose tap. It is under the flightpath which is noticeable, depending on which approach is used but, even so, quite tollerable and it does stop between midnight and 7am, so a quiet night was had. The food is all homemade which results in either pretty good or pretty bad. The tomato soup was superb, the beef pie well filled but with beef that was quite tough and my linguine was overpriced and awful. The pasta was over cooked, the seafood was overcooked and almost non existent and all served up in a thick sickly sauce. Stick to the English food and you will be fine. Enjoyable stay let down by the food.

Good hospitality service, and Food.I do not think that overall quality of the room ( no 9) justifies the rate of £95.00from my experience of staying at many different types of establishments.I realise its location is a major asset though.

great food, drink & atmosphere downstairs but room 5 is very modest in size(charming?) with a poor mattress and an unmanageable heater and directly above the kitchen where there appeared to be a party going on until 11.15(luckily i didnt need an early night)and the floorboards are very thin.I appreciate its an old property and quaint but i feel £90 for that room was a bit much for single occupancy and the noise was an issue.

SPACIOUS.COMFORTABLE BEDS AND DESPITE THE ADVANCE WARNING AN ENJOYABLE HOT SHOWER.DOWN SIDE THE ROOM TOOK ALONG TIME TO WARM UP.I HAVE MOBILITY ISSUES, WALK WITH A STICK AND FIND STEPS DIFFICULT. UNFORTUNATELY THERE WERE 3 OUTSIDE STEPS TO REACH THE ROOM. A SIMPLE SOLUTION, A STURDY HANDRAIL COULD BE PLACED ON ONE SIDE WHICH WOULD ALSO AID THOSE WITH GOOD MOBILITY. THE BREAKFAST WAS EXCELLENT, THE SAUSAGES AND BACON VERY GOOD QUALITY AND NOT TOO HIGHLY SEASONED AS SOME CAN BE. A CHOICE OF JUICE WOULD BE GOOD AS NOT EVERYONE LIKES ORANGE. ON SUNDAY FAMILY JOINED US FOR LUNCH. WE ALL HAD THE ROAST. IT WAS THE BEST SUNDAY ROAST I HAVE EATEN IN MY LIFE. THE SELECTIION OF FRESH VEGETABLES WERE COOKED TO PEERFECTION AND THE MEAT TENDER. The place it self is a very nice old pub but the service was not great. When I arrived I was told I had not booked a room, then another lady went to look into it and eventually come back with a key and showed us to our room. Very small room which I didn't really mind but the bathroom door would not shut and we had to barricade it shut with a stool which still didn't shut it completely so therefore had no privacy whilst in the bathroom. Not acceptable! The mattress felt like you were laying on someone's ribs! So uncomfortable! So no sleep either. When we arrived at 9.15 we asked for a meal and the lady said hurry with order as kitchen closes at 9.30 but she came straight back saying sorry but the kitchen was closed already. We couldn't even get a sandwich! . In the morning I had a meeting at the NEC at 9 so came down ready for breakfast at 8.30 but still in darkness, eventually a young man came in and eventually put the lights on so we could order. Such a disappointment !! After a 3 hour drive straight from work it was all very disheartening, you have a beautiful pub and could do so much better. I paid £90 for that room and service and I feel completely cheated out of money!!

I found the staff to be very friendly a good service, the beer and food was extremely good. The room was very small but adequate clean plenty of towels the TV was a little small However in scale with the rest of the room. Tea Coffee making facilities. decor to a high standard. The only issue was with the mattress needs to be renewed as it has seen better days and the Bed needs to be repaired as it squeaked loudly when you moved or turned over waking you up each time. That said very good just wear ear plugs so not to hear the Church Bell chimes through the night and some one should tell the vicar that the chimes of the clock bell are set wrong as at 4am it chimes 3 times, very confusing. On the whole I would definitely stay there again.

Been staying here when we go to the NEC for about five year now, stayed in lots of other places over the years but this is our favourite. Delicious breakfast sets you up for the day and when we return in the evening we look forward to a beautiful meal. Set in a lovely village a really cosy pub with a great atmosphere.Thank you so much Fan Fan & Chris really enjoyed your company too.All the very best, Liz & Jan

A perfect stay for our visit to see a concert at the NEC. The welcome was warm and genuine, the room provided us with everything we needed and the breakfast was of a high standard. Help was provided with arranging a taxi to and from the NEC and we were back in time from the show to enjoy drinks in the bar with very friendly locals. Will DEFINITELY stay here again when we next want to visit the NEC.

Travelled down by rail with a mate for the NEC Motorcycle Show. Comfortable twin bedded room complete with "olde worlde" creaky floor. Good selection of "proper" beers although rather expensive against what I pay nearer home. Good menu and excellent food. Would most definitely stay again.

We stayed at the white lion because we had two events to go to at the NEC. The white lion was perfect, the room was cosy, the bar and staff where very welcoming, and the service was very good. A hidden gem, perfect location for the NEC and the airport, will definitely spread the word and return to the White lion. Thank you

We spotted the White Lion 5yrs ago on a walk by when staying in nearby hotel in the village.....thought it looked quaint and promised we'd give it a go if we visited again... Glad we did come back. The bar and lounge are so relaxed and full of English charm.... Friendly staff and locals. Rooms fairly basic but clean, warm and comfortable.Access to rooms was via an extremely steep winding staircase .... Full of character but for the able bodied only! There may be better access, didn't notice. Breakfast was very good, perfect eggs! Was reasonably priced and easy to reach from the airport and NEC as just one train stop away and a short walk. Would definitely be back to stay again. The pub restaurant was closed on Sunday evening but staff were able to recommend a close by restaurant.

Great location for the NEC, 5 minute walk to the train station, one stop and you are there for £5.00 return per couple. Friendly pub with a nice atmosphere. Room was clean with everything you would need, plus free bottles of water. Only down side was that our mattress was awful, could feel every spring, but apart from that we enjoyed our stay there.

The accommodation was very convenient and the breakfast was tasty. The only drawback and disappointment was the uncomfortable bed. These days it is possible to stay at a Premier Inn and have a really comfortable bed. That makes it even more disappointing to have paid for a 'luxury' room and have such a poor quality bed one that really was quite uncomfortable.
Response
Thanks for your comments. The bed frame in that room turned out to be broken ,and has now been replaced.

I stayed at the White Lion due to a very early flight the next morning. The service was excellent and I was made to feel very welcome.I stayed in a little chalet room in the garden which was a lovely change from some of the more corporate hotels you find near airports. The pub restaurant served great food and had a great atmosphere.

I had reason to stay in the Solihull area on Business on the 10th November. This was my first trip to the area for a while, and I found my usual venues had all gone up in price considerably since I was last there. So I tried the White Lion for the first time.I was a little concerned that I would not enjoy the usual facilities you get when staying at 3 or 4 Star Hotels, but I was pleasantly surprised. The White Lion was very welcoming, my Room was excellent, very clean with everything I needed (or expected), and all at an extremely competitive price.Throw in an excellent Breakfast and there really wasn't an argument. At this price, I'll certainly be back.

The Inn and its surroundings are very well maintained and in the centre of the conservation area of the village. The public areas, restaurant and bars, are clean and inviting having the appearance of being recently refurbished. At the time of our visit there were 6 real ales on offer. Those we tasted were in excellent condition. The restaurant is quite cosy with very attentive and friendly staff offering well presented and tasty food. The Inn is over 400 years old so in the accommodation floor the ceilings are quite low and none of the doors are square. The room we stayed in was comfortable with most of the facilities one comes to expect these days. The only disappointment with our room was that we could feel the mattress springs when we laid on the bed.

We were in the annexe which seemed to be a converted stable. It was clean and comfortable shower head needs adjusting though as only points up in air so have to hold by hand. We had an evening meal and two breakfasts which were good.A bit chaotic when arrived as only one woman dealing with bookings and running the bar all at the same time, and most people were booking in for the same wedding and had been travelling for hours on a bank holiday Friday, that needs to be sorted. A fair price for what was on offer

HiI was just staying over night and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good and value for money. The only issues which I found were the size of the room and its layout. Also sleeping above the air-conditioning unit made things very noisy. The toilet system was located in the corner and made things very cramped.I would recommend this this as a good short stay hotel/pub

Over the years I've had to visit the NEC for business and always stayed on site - at anonymous and not very special chain hotels. However, travelling to the quilt show at the NEC and being disorganised, the 'official' hotel had no rooms left and wanted over £200 for a single room. So I found the White Lion and I wished I'd found it years ago for all those soulless trade shows. Friendly staff, nice food, good service, quiet and quaint.Room 10 is small though - fine for a single person, but I'd be worried about someone taking a tumble down the stairs trying to navigate to the loo in the night! For the sake of those of us with dodgy knees (and to preserve the paintwork) I'd put a handrail up the aforementioned stairs - also a light over the mirror in the bathroom which is small but functional - and dark. All in all, somewhere I'd certainly stay again if at the NEC.

Stayed for one night heving dropped daughter and son in law at airport as they were going to work abroad for 2 years. Headed to bar for much needed drink. Bar was very cosy and barman extremely helpful and pleasant AND a choice of gins to drown my sorrows....brilliant. Hendricks served properly. We ate in the restaurant and had the best curry that we've had for years. Our room was small but had everything that we needed. Sadly the walls are thin partition and our neighbourarrived back just before 1am shouting and carrying on waking us from our much needed sleep. So our sleep quality was very poor.Having said this, a lovely hotel near the airport in super little village. We will return in happier times.

I stayed at the White Lion following a local wedding reception and found my room to be spacious and clean. The breakfast was excellent and served to order.I would have appreciated a warning about the lock on my door as I had some difficulty in getting into the room when I returned after the reception. As it was after midnight there was no-one to speak to and it took me several minutes to get in - I had begun to think that I was not going to get to my bed and was going to have to knock on the door of my sister and brother in law who were also staying! In the end it was simply a case of the key going too far into an old lock in a very old door which allowed it to turn and turn without touching the mechanism.

My mate and I were coming to watch a couple of days of the Edgbaston Ashes Test. Let's not say any more about that but I wanted to stay in an English pub rather than some standard hotel. The White Lion was exactly what we were looking for and we have a great stay. Food and beer was great. Rooms had character and were very comfortable and the atmosphere of the place was spot on- right down to the locals in the front bar making fun of the Australians who'd come to watch the cricket!

A good place to stay when visiting the NEC.The room was clean and cosy, the bathroom was very basic with poor quality shower cubicle, probably a little too pricey for its standard. The restaurant was very good, food was delicious and our waitress was outstanding but it took nearly two and a half hours to complete 3 course. We were told that they only had one chef on duty who was very stretched as the hotel was full. Stayed three nights. Most of all it is just a very friendly, typical English village pub i.e. central part of village activities, a bar with well kept beer!, all food cooked on premises and good with it, quirky ancient 400 yr old building with low door heights, uneven floors etc.No fancy frills. If you're into 'airs and graces'/ personal 'image' don't bother.Avoid Room 3: the mattress is dreadful.Would certainly go again.

Having booked the White Lion Inn on recommendation we were not surprised to find the Inn in the perfect location for the Wedding reception we were attending. However, having Booked some weeks before and paid a deposit for a single and a double room,on arrival we were shown to a room which had a double bed and a single bed in the same room when asked why ? they was no apology just that this was the only room ! As we were travelling with a young man that we did not know too well it was not an ideal situation. The young man did managed find alternative accommodation. The room was very warm and comfortable and the Breakfast was very good. When checking out the young gentleman that had served us breakfast was very nice he did check the deposit paid and confirmed it had been for the two rooms. Although it was not his mistake he did apologise.

However - our room was very cold when we arrived no heating on at all, it was freezing, also had a couple of issues with cleaning, management were very nice about it but maybe a drink on the house would have been appreciated for our trouble. Silly things which let it down such a shame as it did spoil our stay. Would possibly give it another try.

Really nice warm friendly pub with good menu and good food and an excellent selection of real ales. Chalet style room was a little small, but clean and very reasonably priced. Good breakfast too. I would definitely recommend and would re-visit for either food / drink or a stopover.

What a fabulous place to stay. This old pub is quite beautiful with rooms that are both comfortable and quirky. The food is superb . The best sticky toffee pudding I've ever tried. Breakfast was delicious. Everyone was so friendly. We look forward to a return visit and thank Chris and his wife for their superb hospitality. Should be a 6 star rating.

Great location for what we needed, 5 minutes walk to Hampton Manor for wedding location. We had room 2 which was lovely and big for us, breakfast lovely, fantastic coffee! I appreciate that it is an old property and lovely too, creaking floors very characteristic, my only negative comment would be the door hinges, in either room 3 or 4 they could do with some oil/wd40. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay very tastefully decorated in keeping with the age of the building.

The White Lion is ideally located for the NEC. The service is friendly and the breakfast generous. The best is possibly their great coffee. The evening menu looked good and variedeven though we did not eat as we arrived too late. The bedroom comfort is minimal but it is fine if what you want is just a place to sleep and don't expect luxury.

I stayed at the White Lion for one night prior to attending a show at the NEC which is ten minutes drive away. Its a great little place with a personal touch. Yes the rooms are small and a bit creaky but hey this place is 400 years old! Despite its age there is good wifi. You also get the ambience of a great old pub with a good selection of ales at reasonable prices. The food is pretty good, a step above the usual pub fare with plenty of choice. Breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked. There is lots of free parking and the owner will give you a short cut to the NEC which avoids the crowds. This was much better than all the standard chains that surround the NEC (and charge extra for everything). Ignore the stupid TripAdvisor negative reviews from people who cannot string a sentence together. I'll be back.

Working in Birmingham, I had a really pleasant stay at the White Lion. Nice to get into a quiet village location, and the welcome at the White Lion itself was warm and friendly, food was great, and the room very comfortable. So much better than a plastic chain hotel and easy reach to NEC (5 mins) and Birmingham.

Pleasant accommodation and good food. We stayed in one of the small apartments at the back of the pub which was comfortable and clean. Only slight drawback was the tiny TV on the wall which could hardly be seen from the bed and the noisy after hours drinkers in the garden outside the toom. As we were only staying overnight it didn't bother us too much. Staff were friendly and polite.

This is a beautifully quaint B&B. Situated in a lovely quiet village. The pub itself is busy but still personal, with unique touches around the grounds . We only stayed for one night as at a wedding in the day. But we will be back to sample the menu! (Even though it will be an hours drive... It's worth it!!) The room is beautifu, modern and comfortable, location perfect! Breakfast was a nice start to the day!! If you have a spare weekend where you want to relax I. Chose this location for its proximity to the British Motorcycle Museum. Have no hesitation in giving five stars. The accommodation was a good standard and the restaurant was excellent. The location is not only ideal for the Motorcycle music, but also the NEC, Birmingham Airport and with a good regular train service to both Birmingham and Coventry.

This is not a hotel, literally just a place to sleep. The shower is the smallest it can be. The room could be improve without expending money on it, just a matter of putting some thoughts into it.

Sorry if you were expecting us to be a chain hotel. We are also sorry if you are disappointed in our pub,and B&B, however your company books at least 3 of your colleagues in with us each week and they seem to be happy with what we do.As an aside, you stayed in room 9,which is our smallest room as it was the last available, but I can assure you that the shower cubicle is a standard size.

I stopped in room 3 and found it comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly and welcoming.A good selection of breakfast options were available.Remember that it is a public house and some of the rooms are above the bar so it can be noisy, but you would expect this from any public house.I enjoyed my stay and would happily return.

Hi, I stayed here for one evening whilst visiting the restoration show at the NEC. I found a great atmosphere and friendly locals. Shame about the 'cooler' fan cutting in and out during the night - it's just outside the window in room three (or was if room five ?) and so I would avoid this room if possible!
Response
Hi,thanks for the kind words.Just a note on the cooling fan. It is a supplementary chiller for the beer cellar which kicks in should the temp rise in the cellar. I think that evening became very mild ! But it does keep our beer lovely !!! You stayed in room 5 by the way.

This pub with rooms is in the lovely village of Hampton in Arden and is the perfect base especially if visiting the NEC which is one stop on the train. The pub is welcoming and friendly and the food is of a good pub standard. My only criticism, and this is no fault of the owners, is that the building is 400 years old so ceilings are low and steps steep - if you're elderly or plan to have one too many take great care! If you're over 6 foot avoid room 1 as you won't fit in the shower! All told, I would recommended this pub and would return.

Stayed here approx 4 years ago. Great pub, nice rooms, brilliant restaurant. So booked again ( couldn't get booked in since there last time cos always fully booked) expecting something of the same. No. Restaurant closed due to live music on. NO FOOD served all evening, not even a bar snack in the bar. Don't understand why you book a hotel/motel/pub inn but they don't even tell you there is no food on that night ( I rang the day before to confirm the booking after I booked it via one of these internet sites, so they had the chance to tell me then) A room that, that particular day was very cold (-4 through the night) arrived about 6ish. Couldn't you even bother to put the heating on to warm the room up? It was freezing in that room, and putting what seemed like a 12" TV up on the wall was almost impossible to see from the bed. It seems you have catered more for your (quick buck) music nights. Than your staying guests. And at what I think was £90 a night, is quite honestly extortionate. Oh, ps, the only place to get something to eat on a Sunday night is a upmarket bistro not far away that will cost you a pretty packet. Completely dissatisfied. Would not recommend.
Response
Very sorry you did not enjoy your stay. We quite clearly state on our Website that our restaurant is not open Sunday evenings, and never has been. As regards to room heating. Our heating is timed to come on at 3.00 in the afternoon, shutting off at 11.00 the following morning. This is for ecological and financial reasons, as these are our check in check out times, and we don\'t want to be heating unoccupied areas. As you say it was -4 that night !With regard to music. We hold live music nights on a Sunday about 6 or 7 times a year. This is appreciated by most,we are sorry it wasn\'t for you. We would prefer not to discuss our pricing, but feel we are reasonably priced for what we offer

Received a friendly welcome when we checked in. Allocated room 1 which was quaint with crooked walls and a very comfortable bed. We came back to the room at 1am after a wedding at Hampton Manor but could clearly hear music coming from the bar downstairs. This continuedfor quite a while.(Much as I love Elvis, there seemed to be little regard for guests staying upstairs)Breakfast was very nice full English served in the restaurant.I would stay here again, but would ask for a quieter room in the annexe if staying on a Friday or Saturday night.

My room was very cold. I asked a member of staff to switch on the heater but she had to ask a customer to help us ! Access to my room after 11pm was via an external grille "fire escape" not a great way to get to my room in heels!
Response
Not quite sure how to respond. Our heating is set to a timer for all the rooms, not sure what time you checked in but maybe that had a bearing. As to the external stairs, they are the strict requirements as laid down by the listed building planners and fire department,we have no choice in the matter.

We had one of the upstairs garden rooms and although immacuately clean it was tiny. You couldn't move without tripping over, banging something or hitting your hard. And unfortunately the bed was one of the most uncomfortable I've slept on.When we checked in we were asked what time we'd like breakfast and ascertaining that it was between 07.30 and 10.00 (great times for the work and leisure travellers), we said we'd be there about 09.30. Well next morning we were in fact about 10 minutes earlier but they'd already begun to clear away so there was no cereal and we had to ask for orange juice. The tea and cooked breakfast (apart from a burnt fried egg) was delicous though.I thought it was expensive for what you got and am sure the £85 we paid was a direct reflection on the prices at Hampton Manor so people think they're getting a bargain.
Response
We are sorry you were informed that breakfast times were 7.30-10.00. Our breakfast times are 7.30-9.00 weekdays and 8.30-10.00 weekends. Beautiful characteristic 400 year old grade II listed building. Absolutely fantastic stay, hosts were very welcoming and the food (including hearty breakfast) is delicious. We will definitely stay here again. With the location to train station walking distance, and only one stop to Birmingham NEC, it couldn't be any more convenient. We stayed for 4 nights and loved it; the rates were just right for us with excellent value for money. I do not have any negative comments.

For friendly accommodation with good food and drink near to Birmingham Airport The White Lion Inn was a good choice. It's only a 10 minute drive to the terminal.

Was welcomed by the manager and made to feel welcomed.Accommodation was better than I expected and morning breakfast was great.Booked to go to the Classic car show at the NEC and was very happy with the closeness and lovely location of the White Lion.I will defiantly be doing the same next year.

Stayed for three nights in room 9.Room is very small, but this was explained to me at the time of booking, so not an issue. Very clean, and coffee etc replenished daily.Pub atmosphere very good, plenty of local people appear to use it.Food excellent-both breakfast and evening meal.Five of us ate together on Saturday evening, absolutely no complaints about the quality of the meal, but it did take a very long time to arrive. Overall I would have no hesitation in recommending the White Lion to others.

Our stay was pleasant. Like many other rooms we stay in the size of the bed is small when we are used to a king size! No complaints as everything was catered for.

We really enjoyed our one night stay! The pub has been nicely modernised since we were last there and since our wedding guests stayed there 20 years ago! We enjoyed the meal veryt much in the restaurant and the atmosphere, decor etc. Staff were efficient & friendly. there was aproblem with the bed - wooden slats dropping off underneath but the landlord had such a great sense of humour that this was not too much of a problem and we were given a bottle of wine.

We were very impressed by the welcome and service received during our brief stay. Very enjoyable evening meal and not surprised the pub and restaurant were so busy. So pleased our dog could stay too even though he found the steps up to the room difficult. Will come again if we are in the area.

I was travelling to a business meeting/event nearby and couldn't get in the venue, so booked at the White Lion which was nearby..and I'm do glad I did! It was a lovely place to stay, very quaint with a syle of it's own which compliments it's 400 year old status. The staff were efficient, and were genuinely friendly and helpful, not because they'd been told to be. The real ale was a delight, good selection and well kept and the food was excellant too, I had the Jamaican goat curry...which I've never had before and wouldn't have expected to eat for the first time in a country pub! So an inconvenience turned into benefit. I will seek the White Lion out again if and when I'm in the area again, though next time it will be my first choice.P.S If you go on a Monday, the church opposite has bell ringing practice...which I thought was great, during and then at the end ;-)

Comfortable room, good pub/bar atmosphere (including live band playing acoustic music on the evening I was staying), and really excellent dinner in the restaurant with a touch of French flair.

Nice old worldly pub with great beers and good grub.Only downside was that on one ocation the cleaner only changed the towels and not cleaned or made up the room.Hope you get this fixed as you have a good place in a great location for our work.

We are really sorry you did not get breakfast !Breakfast is served between 8.30 and 10.00. There should have been someone here at 8.30. we will look in to what happened and come back to you. Again ,please accept our appologies.Hi, I have spoken with the Sunday morning staff who arrived at 8.15. A table was laid for you for breakfast. I'm not sure what time you checked out but there was obviously some communication breakdown over your breakfast request,as we were ready to serve you. Once again we are sorry for any misunderstanding.

We were exceedingly disappointed with this hotel. The room was small (as expected) but the faults were horrendous. The bathroom door doesn't shut, the heating would not switch off (it was incredibly hot) and the staff had a quick look and shrugged saying they didn't know about the heating and were completely disinterested. so we slept with the window open right next to the kitchen extractor fan which was nosier than the airplanes landing close by and went on until 2:30 in the morning only to restart at 6am.
